Johne’s disease (caused by Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis, MAP) is one of the most economically destructive chronic infections in global dairy production. Although no country tracks Johne’s‑specific culling, harmonized epidemiologic modeling across the U.S., EU, New Zealand, and Australia indicates that approximately 0.5–1.5 million dairy cows are removed from production each year due to Johne’s‑driven clinical disease and Johne’s‑associated low‑production culling. Additionally, some scientists hypothesize that MAP infections passed on to human populations through dairy and meat products may present the risk of chronic illnesses in the same manner as in bovine populations.
As the first Point-of-Care testing method for MAP infections, MAPfast can be an important adjunctive research tool to expand your ability to ring-fence the pervasive MAP infections in the dairy industry and reduce the opportunity for this infectious agent to travel downstream to the human population.
